A candidate’s minimum undergraduate or graduate degree GPA should be 3.0 or greater. Applicants must submit an application and fee, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency for international students. No GMAT/GRE or work experience is required; however, work experience is desired.
Study Plan: Classes are offered in a condensed 7.5-week format, and the degree consists of ten courses. It is designed to be completed in one year. Coursework: This 30-credit program includes required courses, electives, research, and a culminating applied project. Core courses include the foundations of biomedical informatics methods; health economics, policy and payment models; current perspectives in biomedical diagnostics; the regulation of medical diagnostics; and molecular diagnostics. An example of an elective might be biomedical device design. Students should check with the BMD program for a list of approved electives.
Online Experience: Most courses are asynchronous but may have specific login times required. This format allows students to watch recorded lectures and complete coursework on their own time by a scheduled due date. There may be assignments and tests that are only available for a block of time (e.g., 48-72 hours), so students should keep up on emails and posted information. ASU uses Blackboard as its online learning management system. Students can use a PC or Mac and should have a headset, microphone, and webcam to make use of all offered multimedia tools.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the MS in biomedical diagnostics program as it is 100 percent online. Students are welcome to visit campus and participate in graduation on campus.
