Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions offers an online master of international health management (MIHM) degree in partnership with the University of New South Wales. Designed for professionals seeking careers in international health systems management, MIHM Graduates are prepared with expertise in the informatics, finance, and leadership skills needed to assume management roles in hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics.

The program focuses on the advancement of PLuS alliance principles with the goal of creating solutions to global healthcare challenges. Global awareness and cultural competence are strongly emphasized within this international, collaborative degree program. Topics of study include healthcare management, finance, and comparative health systems.

The online MIHM program is led by faculty members who are actively engaged in the medical community and accomplished academics. Faculty research projects include human communication; the relationship between the environment, food security, and community health; diabetes and cardiovascular health; health monitoring technology research; and big data analysis to improve patient health.

Faculty collaboration with community organizations provides networking opportunities for MIHM students at renowned institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Dignity Health, the Barrow Neurological Institute, Honor Health, and the Health Care Sector Partnership.

Applicants with a background in health sciences may apply to ASU’s online master of international health management. Candidates must hold either a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution in one of the following fields: pre-med, nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical informatics, pre-health, or health promotion. A GPA of 3.0 or a 4.0 scale is also required.

What to Expect from the Master of International Healthcare Management (MIHM) Program

Admissions Requirements: Applicants must submit a graduate admission application along with a non-refundable application fee, official transcripts, three letters of reference, and a personal statement. A 3.0 GPA within the last 60 hours of coursework is preferred, however, candidates with GPAs under 3.0 may still apply for consideration. International applicants must also provide proof of English proficiency, official transcripts in the original language, and an official English translation.

Time to Completion: The program is designed to be completed in two years.

Study Plan: The program comprises 30 credits distributed over ten classes that last 7.5 weeks each. Six start dates per year are available to online students.

Coursework: The curriculum encompasses both public and privatized healthcare systems. In addition to core coursework in healthcare management and finance and comparative health systems, students choose four elective courses from one of four specialty tracks: hospital management, health economics, health informatics, and quality improvement in healthcare. Students demonstrate their competency by creating a portfolio at the end of the program.

Online Experience: The MIHM is 100 percent online, taught by the same accomplished faculty members who teach in campus programs. The program begins with online orientation in which students meet their teachers and other members of their online degree program and explore the tools available for use throughout their online experience. Students are required to use desktop or laptop computers with at least two browsers.

Learning activities may be delivered in synchronous or asynchronous formats. The use of video, teleconferencing, and online discussion platforms may be used in addition to other means of electronic communication. Live chat services are available to students to troubleshoot technical problems 24/7.

Onsite Requirements: The international healthcare management program is 100 percent online with no required campus visits.
