Hofstra University LL.M. & MA in Health Law and Policy Online Programs
Hofstra University’s Maurice A. Deane School of Law offers an Online Master of Laws (LL.M) and Online Master of Arts (MA) in Health Law and Policy. The LL.M. seeks to prepare legal professionals to specialize their law practice and learn the language of healthcare law and policy. Both lawyers and other legal professionals may be interested in the LL.M. program to further their career. Those interested in the LL.M. may come from backgrounds in legal fields such as paralegals, lawyers, arbitrators, mediators, and conciliators.
The MA seeks to educate healthcare professionals in the various aspects of Health Law and Policy. Those interested in the MA in Health Law and Policy may come from various healthcare backgrounds, including professionals in the following areas: health administrators, advanced practice nurses, insurance professionals, compliance officers, physicians, and health educators, among other occupations.
Hofstra Law’s online LL.M and MA degrees were designed by health law experts. The programs focus on biotechnology, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the American legal system, public health, disability and discrimination, drug development, Medicaid, and Medicare. Class discussions are relevant to current headlines and issues in healthcare law and policy. Core issues of the changing healthcare system and patient’s rights are addressed throughout the program.
Several of the online faculty participate in projects and programs at the Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy. Projects include policy examination, outreach efforts, and advocacy, all of which are changing the healthcare world of today. Above all, the faculty members are very involved in real-world problems and bring this expertise to the online classroom. The Maurice A. What to Expect from the LL.M. and MA in Health Law and Policy Programs
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the MA in Health Law and Policy program must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. For the LL.M. program, applicants must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. Applicants must submit an online application, a resume, a professional statement, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. There is an application fee and no GMAT/GRE is required.
International students seeking entrance into Hofstra Law’’s LL.M. or MA programs and who have received their degree from an institution outside the U.S. must register with the LL.M. Credential Assembly Service or submit TOEFL reports and official transcripts to the Maurice A. Deane School of Law directly. If a student registers with the credential assembly service, transcripts will be secured and sent to World Education Services for evaluation.
Study Plan: The LL.M. consists of 25 credit hours and can be completed in as few as 18 months. The MA consists of 30 credit hours and can be completed in two years. Students have up to five years to complete the program. Start dates are offered in the fall, spring, and summer.
Curriculum: The following courses are required for both the LL.M. and MA in Health Law and Policy: Medicare and Medicaid Law; Law of Medical Product Discovery, Development, and Commercialization; Bioethics and the Law; Business Transactions in Healthcare; The ADA: Statutory Interpretation; public health law, policy, and ethics; representing healthcare providers; and healthcare compliance. In addition, the M.A. includes the following two courses: introduction to the American legal system and health law. Both programs end with a five-credit capstone course.
Online Experience: The Hofstra Law Online LL.M. and MA in Health Law and Policy programs are 100 percent online. The programs utilize Moodle for online learning experiences. Students collaborate with healthcare professionals and law professionals throughout the program. Students in online programs must have access to a computer, speakers, and a high-speed internet connection and must know how to navigate programs and send and receive information.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the online LL.M. or MA in Health Law and Policy as the programs are 100 percent online.
