What to Expect from the Murray State Online MBA in Healthcare Administration
Admission Requirements: Online applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Work experience requirements are waived for applicants with a 3.25 or higher GPA. Those with a GPA of 3.0 must have two years of full-time, relevant work experience, and those with a 2.5 to 2.99 GPA must have four years. The GMAT or GRE is required for applicants with a 2.75 GPA or lower, and applicants who do not meet these requirements will be considered case-by-case.
Prospective students may also apply with a master’s or doctoral degree. Application materials include official transcripts, a resume or CV, and any other documentation required in the application.
Study Plan: The Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business offers the online healthcare MBA twice yearly in the fall, spring, and summer. Courses last six weeks each, and the program can be completed in 12 to 14 months. Students take 21 credits of core MBA courses and 12 credits of healthcare administration electives. Two free, non-credit-bearing leveling courses are also required for all students to be completed during core courses. A strategic management capstone is included in the program.
Curriculum: The Murray State online healthcare MBA comprises 33 credits and includes four healthcare administration courses. Core courses include accounting for decision-making; introduction to business analytics; managerial economics; corporate finance seminar in organizational behavior; seminar in strategic management; and marketing planning and application.
The two free leveling courses, on a pass/fail basis at 80 percent. They include financial accounting fundamentals for MBAs; and microeconomics and calculus fundamentals for MBAs. Healthcare administration concentration courses include an overview of the healthcare delivery system; demonstration in management; healthcare planning; and financial aspects of health service organizations.
Online Experience: The online MBA in healthcare administration program is designed so that students take one or more courses at a time in seven-week intervals. Murray State University delivers courses through the Canvas online learning management system (LMS). Online student orientation resources are available to walk students through using Canvas and the university’s RacerNet system.
