Regis University Online MS & Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics
Regis University offers an online MS in health informatics (MSHI) program with a general path or a data science specialization that includes two health care informatics practicum experiences. A graduate certificate in health care informatics is also offered that can be applied to the MSHI program. Both are programs through the Anderson College of Business and Computing.
The MSHI curriculum frequently uses case studies and applied projects and includes a challenging set of core courses, four electives, and two practicums. The program conveys how big data, information technology, and worldwide access to resources are improving health care delivery and patient outcomes. Regis University seeks to prepare students to advance the implementation and use of health care technology for effective decision-making, clinical management, and the redesign of patient care delivery. Students also develop methods to expand health care access through technology to underserved populations.
Core courses cover information systems, workflow and change management relative to health information technology (IT), the selection and design of IT systems, health care performance evaluation, and IT research methods. Students in the general MSHI path choose four of five electives covering nursing and clinical informatics, data science, management of e-HIM, information governance, ethics and privacy, social justice, and business intelligence. The data science specialization includes four courses covering data science, data analytics, statistical methods, experimental design, and data visualization.
Start dates for the MSHI program land in January, March, May, August, and October. Courses last eight weeks each, and the program can be completed in 18 months of full-time study. The graduate certificate in health care informatics begins in January and October and can be completed in six to 12 months.
Graduates of the MS in health informatics and graduate certificate programs may gain positions in medical group practices, hospitals, other health care facilities, electronic health systems vendors, health technology firms, health care analytics firms, and higher learning institutions.
Regis University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is located in Denver, Colorado.
